My contributions on the Syneron team: Participated in ethnographic research, storyboarded concepts and build prototypes to explain ideas and interactions to confirm workflows. Designed UI and specification for embedded UI. Extensive collaboration with Engineering and Industrial Design on user journey and feedback to align UI with workflows.

Focus on the patient, not the tools your using.

In reimagining Syneron’s VelaShape required me to use my experience design process to guide the project through industrial design and UI development. I began by creating a visual brand language that complemented the atmosphere of a wellness center or spa.

I then conducted user surveys and found that clinicians using the Velashape system need precise control of the handpiece over a prolonged period of time, and the original VelaShape applicator became uncomfortable with extended use.

The right usability completely redesigned the handpiece to increase ergonomic efficiency, with rubberized grips and larger handles for increased user comfort during longer treatments, and more precise control. A multi-grip design allows each handpiece to be held in multiple positions depending on the treatment being provided.

The UI now could compliment the ID through simple screen walk-throughs and setup. Once set up, the user could now focus on the patient and treatment and not the machine. In addition, we added a small display to the handpiece so the technician does not have to look over to the main unit all the time and can focus on the treatment.
